Locally Made with Love {Review of Mission Pie Bakery}

Mission Pie, 2901 Mission Street, San Francisco
If only more businesses were like Mission Pie, it would change the world for the better! Active in the local community and the locally grown food movement, this special pie shop has a neighborhood-friendly ethic. Mission Pie describes itself as a "corner cafe, bakery and gathering place." The owners also play an important role in training young employees for career success in the restaurant industry.

Apricot-Frangipane Tart

Everything at Mission Pie is made from scratch using the highest-quality ingredients from small organic farms (in Marin, Pescadero, Sebastopol, the Sierra Foothills and other nearby locations), includng ripe fresh fruit, organic butter and California-grown whole wheat flour. The pies are so wholesome, they're reminiscent of pies homemade by Grandma. I can picture families gathering together to share slices on the front porch, as the aroma of baked goods tempts the kids away from their outdoor games.

Mission Pie also has savory options, such as quiches, pot pies and side salads. Hearty and delicious, the quiches are prepared from free-range eggs, organic cream and milk. You'll find classics like spinach, bacon quiche as well as more unusual combinations such as cauliflower and black olives. My favorite choices are the potato gratin tart and cole slaw.

My favorites: potato gratin tart and cole slaw
In addition, Mission Pie offers a small selection of products for sale, including regional varietal honey, bouquets of wildflowers, artisan cheese, gourmet pickles and locally grown vegetables. It's a wonderful way to support local farmers and food producers.

Beautiful bouquets of locally grown wildflowers for sale!

I am headed in for some honey, flowers, Potato Gratin and just can't resist the Apple-Huckleberry Mini Pie with Crumble Top! It looks like I have the perfect home made evening without having to lift a finger!
